What are your children reading? Julia just turned seven, and while some of her peers have already finished reading the Harry Potter books and moved on to the Oliver Twist, others are just starting with the Magic Tree House series. Well, Julia just started with chapter books. Her first "big" book is The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (190+pages). There are many versions of this story, and this book is our favorite. It is beautifully illustrated and has enough words to enrich the vocabulary, while not discouraging a seven-year-old from reading by overwhelming her with unfamiliar words. (If Julia does not know the word, she has to look it up in a Dictionary or in a Thesaurus - we love the American Heritage series.)
Julia often reads to Adrian: the plot is very engaging for both: 7 and 3 year old, so children often cuttle up and read when they need a quiet time.
Julia has a small shelf above her bed where she keeps all her plush toys. Children love this Winnie The Pooh and Friends set made by MiYim Simply Organic. (It looks like this set is sold out and the closest I could find is the Baby Winnie).
Julia is very much into drawing lately. She would find a picture and draw it by looking at it (not tracing over), just like she did with the Walt Disney's Winnie the Pooh book cover. This book is a nice version as well: it has a lot of illustrations (some of them spread over the entire page); the vocabulary is a little simpler, and it is much shorter 90 pages (vs 190 pages) .
What books are your favorite? I would love to hear from you:)
