Letter V (Montessori Language)

Inspired by May 9th Victory Day, we are exploring letter V. Allowing a child to explore his/her learning environment through many senses, assures better absorption and retention of the information learned. โ€œThe child can only develop fully by means of experience in his environment.  We call such experience โ€˜workโ€™.โ€  (Maria Montessori, The Absorbent Mind, Chapter 7, p. 88) …  [and] "We know that development results from activity. [So], the environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct his own experiences." (The Absorbent Mind, p. 84.)

Even though Adrian knows all the alphabet letters, in the absence of implementation and application of what he had learned, he will inevitably forget it. So, we like to explore alphabet letters with a Letter hunt, where Adrian gathers objects beginning with a particular sound, and then we vary the activity by hands-on "making" the letter using different materials.

A new twist to a mundane activity = ignited interest = learning fun!
