Living the Life You Once Dreamed Of: You are living through moments the older version of you once prayed for. Don’t rush past them. Intentional living in motherhood means choosing presence over pressure, connection over comparison, and steady progress over unrealistic expectations.
A story about impossible odds, tiny steps, and the life I once prayed for.
She didn’t know the odds. She only knew the dream
When I was six years old, I was standing barefoot in a sandbox, sand stuck between my fingers, hair in a messy ponytail, declaring to my best friend with full-body certainty:
“One day, I’m going to live in New York City and become an attorney.”
I had no proof.
No roadmap.
No reason to believe it could actually happen — especially considering it was the Cold War era, and that little sandbox sat in a former Soviet Republic.
So, the odds were slim to none.
But little me said it with a boldness only a child can hold… the kind of dream that feels too big for your hands but somehow still yours to carry.
And then life happened.
I grew up.
I moved countries.
I worked, hustled, studied until 2 a.m., and pushed through obstacles I could have never imagined at age six.
And today?
I’m a U.S. citizen.
An Attorney-at-Law with a Juris Doctor degree.
A wife.
A mom of two incredible children.
A woman with a home in the suburbs.
A career and a mission I love.
A community of over a million, I get to impact every day.
There was a time in my life when I would’ve traded everything just to have the life I live now.
But the truth?
Sometimes I forget that.
Sometimes I take it for granted.
Sometimes I rush so fast into the next goal that I forget to honor the girl who got me here.
And maybe you feel this too.
We forget that our present reality is built on the quiet, invisible steps we took when no one was watching —
the micro-habits, the little risks, the tiny wins that didn’t feel like much at the time.

So here’s the reflection I’m sitting with today:
What did I do today that Future Me will thank me for?
Even if it feels tiny.
Even if no one else sees it.
Because tiny acts of courage are what pave the way to the bigger, braver versions of ourselves.
And while I’m proud of who I’m becoming, I’m equally tender toward the versions of me who came before.
The girl who didn’t know how this story would unfold.
The young woman who carried so much on her shoulders.
The new mom who doubted herself daily.
The parts of me that were doing their best with what they had.
If any of them could see me now…I think they’d cry.
I think they’d say, “You did it. You kept going. You became her.”
And here’s the part I want you to feel today:
Future You is cheering for you, too.
She’s not judging you.
She’s not comparing you.
She’s not rushing you.
She’s whispering,
“You’re doing better than you think.”
You’re growing — slowly, quietly, in seasons.
Just like your child. Just like all of us.
So before your head hits the pillow tonight, ask yourself:
What is one thing your Future Self will thank you for — even if it feels small today?
I’d love to hear your answer.
With love always,
Anya
