Is Your Child a Hidden Rembrandt? What a Louvre Visit Taught Me About Brilliance

Could your child be a creative genius just waiting for space to shine? Inspired by a visit to the Mona Lisa and a real Rembrandt found in a closet, this story explores how to unlock your child's hidden brilliance

Could your child be a creative genius just waiting for space to shine? Inspired by a visit to the Mona Lisa and a real Rembrandt found in a closet, this story explores how to unlock your child’s hidden brilliance.

During our trip to the Louvre, we joined the crowd of people straining for a glimpse of the world’s most famous smile.

But here’s the thing: that Mona Lisa moment made me think about what doesn’t get hung on the wall.

So many masterpieces stay hidden. Tucked in attics. Forgotten in sketchbooks. Stuffed in storage.

Which brings me to… the closet.

Because once upon a time, in a dusty closet in Holland, someone discovered a real Rembrandt.

And it hit me—our children are walking, talking versions of that.

We don’t always know what’s hidden inside them until we give them the space to explore. Until we open the metaphorical door.

We all know the Mona Lisa. But imagine if da Vinci had kept her tucked in a drawer—never shown, never seen, never celebrated. That sounds ridiculous… until you realize we might be doing something similar with our kids.

Big Idea

Your child might be a Rembrandt in the closet.

But you’ll never know if they’re too busy, too boxed in, or too burned out to explore.

Try This at Home

✔️ Create white space. Boredom is a canvas. Let them get bored and then go beyond.

✔️ Say yes to the weird idea. Painting upside down? Mixing slime and glitter? Building a pretend bank? Say yes—and see what unfolds.

✔️ Watch without leading. See what they gravitate toward when no one’s giving them a script.

Real talk?

We can’t force brilliance.

But we can make room for it to reveal itself.

That’s what Rembrandts—and children—need most.
