Boost your child’s early literacy skills with this fun and colorful Rainbow Magnets Alphabet Matching Activity—a hands-on way to teach letter recognition, fine motor skills, and color sorting!
Looking for a hands-on way to teach letter recognition while keeping your little one engaged? This Rainbow Magnets Alphabet Matching Kids Activity combines early literacy, color recognition, and fine motor skills into one exciting game!
Using uppercase and lowercase letter magnets, children match letters by placing a lowercase sticker on the white back of each magnet—ensuring they attract properly. As they play, they also strengthen their color sequencing skills, since each letter pair shares the same vibrant hue.
And the best part? Once they’ve completed the activity, invite them to ‘run’ across the rainbow while singing the ABC song—turning learning into a joyful, movement-filled experience!
This simple yet effective activity makes learning letters fun, interactive, and memorable—perfect for toddlers and preschoolers!
Instructions
To continue with our rainbow theme, I made this DIY alphabet-matching activity. First, I drew a rainbow using these pastels. Then, I laminated the rainbow painting since the pastels are transferred to the hands.
I wrote with this Sharpie upper and lower case alphabet on these dot sticker sheets.
I then arranged twenty-six of these self-adhesive magnets on the rainbow to represent the upper case letters, securing them to the rainbow by removing the backs.
To make sure that the upper and lower case magnets attack, stick the upper case dot sticker to the “face” of the magnet already secured to the rainbow.
For the lowercase letter magnets, keep the backs intact—instead of removing them, simply place a lowercase letter sticker on the white back. This way, the magnets will still attract properly while making letter matching easy and fun!

Offer your child to match the loose lower case magnets to the upper case magnets already adhered to the rainbow.
This language-matching activity is also a great fine motor and hand-eye coordination exercise.

As they match letters, children also strengthen their color recognition and practice rainbow color sequencing, since each uppercase and lowercase pair shares the same vibrant hue.
After completing the activity, invite your child to ‘run’ across the rainbow while singing the ABC song—turning learning into a joyful, movement-filled celebration!
Magnets are great since this assures you will not have tiny dot letters all around the house!
