Lost in the noise of homeschool “should’s”? Discover how clarity, not comparison, can help you in finding your destination and reshape your homeschool journey into one that truly fits your family | Episode 17.
Feeling lost in your homeschool journey? Here’s what Seuss gift shop, Alice in Wonderland, and the Cheshire Cat taught me about parenting clarity and intention in finding my destination.
Inside this episode, you’ll discover how to:
- Why “just getting somewhere” isn’t the same as choosing where you want to go—and how that mindset shift can change your homeschool.
- The powerful lesson homeschool parents can take from the Maya and Inuit—trusting observation over rigid structure.
- How to stop climbing someone else’s mountain—and start creating a homeschool rhythm that’s aligned with your values, not social media noise.

What do Alice, the Cheshire Cat, Inuit & Maya have in common?
They all reveal the importance of knowing your direction before you start the journey.
Whether it’s Alice in Wonderland realizing she doesn’t know where she wants to go, the Cheshire Cat reminding her that wandering without direction still leads somewhere—but not always where you want to be, or the Maya and Inuit gently guiding children through observation and purpose.
Each one shows us that clarity comes before progress.

Success Has a Different Shape in Every Home
Success looks different for every family—especially yours, because your child’s journey was never meant to fit someone else’s map.

It’s not always neat handwriting or reciting facts on cue.
Sometimes, it looks like a kid asking why for the tenth time.
Or helping you peel carrots while humming off-key.
Or playing quietly, lost in their own brilliant little world.
Because your child’s journey was never meant to follow someone else’s map.
And neither was yours.
Let this be your permission slip to define success on your terms.
Not Instagram’s.
Not Pinterest’s.
Not that perfect family from the co-op.
Just yours.
Alice — Where to Go? Finding Your Destination in Parenting and Homeschool

Do you remember that scene when Alice, dismally lost, was asking the Cheshire Cat:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” asked Alice The Cheshire Cat.
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where,” said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“So long as I get somewhere,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”

And that’s when it hit me…
How often are we doing the exact same thing?
Drifting like a piece of wood on the tide of life —moving, yes, but without ever deciding where we want to go.
So right there, under fluorescent lights and next to a life-sized plush Thing 1, I realized …
We were all a bit like Alice—homeschool moms, parents, families…
Craving direction… But rarely defining the destination.
Because the truth is, we’re often wandering through a maze of options without ever deciding what mountain we actually want to climb.
Where to go? Suck in Wonderland Like Alice | Anya Garcia Show

And remember—if you’ve been feeling like Alice, spinning in circles, you’re not lost.
You just need a moment of clarity. A moment of honesty.
Ask yourself gently:
Is this really what I want for my kids?
Or am I chasing a Pinterest-perfect, Instagram-worthy version of homeschooling that tells me what I “should” do… and leaves me feeling like I’m not enough?
But here’s the truth: you are enough. Your instincts matter. And the fact that you’re even asking these questions? That’s proof you’re already on the right path.

The First Step Toward Progress Is Awareness, Not Guilt

Guilt whispers: “You should’ve done more.”
Awareness says: “Now you know better, let’s choose differently.”
The truth is—progress doesn’t come from getting it all right.
It starts when you slow down long enough to ask:
What’s working?
What’s not?
What do I truly want this to feel like?
Guilt keeps you stuck replaying yesterday.
But awareness?
That’s what gently moves you forward—with intention, not shame.
You don’t need more hustle.
You need more clarity.
Let’s keep choosing clarity over comparison— and joy over perfection.
