Why Should We Craft With Children?
Importance of Toddler-friendly Crafts During Early Years
Offering toddler-friendly crafts during the early years is important for several reasons:
Development of Fine Motor Skills
Crafts involve using small muscles in the hands and fingers, which helps to develop fine motor skills in toddlers. This is important for later skills such as writing, using scissors, and buttoning clothes.
Creativity and Imagination
Crafts allow young artists to express themselves and use their imaginations to create something unique. This applies especially when they’re not coloring within the lines. Free-expression helps to foster creativity and develop problem-solving skills.
Cognitive Development
Crafting can also aid in cognitive development by helping children learn about colors, shapes, and textures and enhancing their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Builds Self-Esteem
Completing a craft project gives toddlers a sense of accomplishment and builds their confidence. It helps them to feel proud of their creations and encourages them to continue exploring their creative side.

Develops Cognitive Skills
Crafts involve following instructions, planning and problem-solving, and decision-making. This helps to develop cognitive skills such as memory, attention, and organization.
Bonding and Communication
Crafting with toddlers can also provide a bonding experience for parents, caregivers, and children. It can help facilitate communication and socialization, as well as provide an opportunity for positive reinforcement and praise.
Overall, offering toddler-friendly crafts during the early years can help foster important developmental skills, creativity, imagination, and socialization. It can also provide a fun and engaging way for toddlers to learn and explore the world around them.
