Beginning Sound Recycled-DIY Game
🌟 PURPOSE: to teach a child to recognize, isolate and write the beginning sound of a word.
⠀
🌟 AIM: phonemic awareness, which is the ability to manipulate phonemes, the smallest units of sound.
⠀
🌟 WHEN: After your child has been blending simple CVC (three letter words consonant – vowel – consonant like a cat, map, fan, etc.)
⠀
🌟 The next natural progression will be to recognize the ending sound followed by the middle, which is the most difficult.
Phonemic Awareness
Note that in Montessori education, letters are introduced by the phonetic sound they make rather than letter names. Also, letters are introduced first in phonetical sets to facilitate the child’s ability to make as many words as possible using those sounds. After playing iSpy games and other sound games, a child is introduced to a Montessori pink series, and children as young as 3 1/2 are learning to blend sounds together to read words.
