Seed-plant matching Montessori Botany unit study activity offers preschoolers and kindergartners to predict by observing the seed which plant it will grow into.
It is amazingย how children are drawn to the wonders of nature, to its magic of bringingย life from fuzzy buds and sleepy seeds. The cycle of a plant is particularly mesmerizingย to a child: how from something so tiny can sprout a mighty tree with roots reaching down to the earth. “It is necessary for his psychical life to place the soul of the child in contact with creation, in order that he may lay up for himself treasure from the directly educating forces of living nature, said Dr. Maria Montessori.ย The Montessori Method.ย So, today, as a part of our Montessori Botany unit study, we are having a closer look at seeds. In particular, Adrian will be matching seed-plant as a part of guessing and predicting activity.

Adrian also made a chart with types of plants written in columns, and he had to guess how would the seed look like by drawing it in a little square. He then, would open the seed bag and see if his prediction of how the seed should look was correct.ย This seed-plant matching activity is perfect for developing analytical thinking and critical reasoning as a child is invited to observe and predict.
